Today, I am suffering from a fever, coughing, a sore throat, and my body aches all over. However, I cannot blame it on my lifestyle in general. I might not be the most active person at the moment (not the best weather for long hikes), but I go for walks, I move around, walk up and down the stairs, drink plenty of water, and eat healthily. I usually don't have issues with my health apart from one or the other tension headache, and a few things have changed positively since I adopted a healthier style of living. I am a very good example of how physical health can be absolutely ruined by other factors.
I knew I was on the path to becoming sick for various reason. I was able to delay the onset, but I wasn't able to take the steps that would have helped me to completely avoid being sick. In the past, I was very sceptical when I read various studies about non-physical health related issues that can shorten people's life. But now I start to see how those could actually be true. I didn't want to believe that I could die a certain amount of years sooner because of certain things. I found it unfair, and thus I did not want to believe it. I thought if I was just healthy, and slowly worked towards some realistic goals, I would be just as fine as other people. I was wrong. It's just not true.
Giving up on your big dreams can really bring you closer to death quicker. Watching other people not treating the things you would like in your life with disrespect, just getting them without effort, and taking it for granted, also makes you weaker. Not because of suicide (but maybe they calculated that into the equation, too, and of course it would shorten the average life span of certain groups of people if some of the group killed themselves at an early age?), but simply because your body will give up, too.
So why even life a healthy life if it doesn't matter much in the end?
